Roofs must be secured to make it safe to access for both tenants, operating and service personnel. When working at height, the worker must always be secured when there is a risk of falling, and it is the owner of the building who is responsible for ensuring that safety is adequate and available at all times. All buildings should therefore have installed systems for personnel safety where traffic takes place at height .

Høyden designs and installs permanent fall arrest systems and access solutions that ensure safe and efficient traffic. Fall arrest systems can be installed on both new and existing buildings and tailored as needed. Høyden supplies both horizontal and vertical fall arrest systems such as wires, rail systems, ladders, roof ladders and railings.

The Workplace Regulations shall ensure that employees' safety, health and welfare are safeguarded at the workplace. Section 6-5 “Protection against falls” defines, among other things, that in the event of a risk of falling more than 2 meters to a lower level, measures must be implemented. However, this does not mean that measures are not needed for falls of less than 2 meters. The regulations do not define what "danger" is, and thus do not say anything about when measures are to be implemented. Therefore, there must always be a risk assessment for each individual roof.

In Høyden we always strive to install fall restraining systems. They make it physically impossible to fall. For example, a wire placed 2 meters from the edge and a walking rope of 1.5 meters would be such a system. The alternative is fall arresting systems. An example of this is an anchor point that is located two meters from an edge and 3.5 meters from a corner. A three-meter walking rope that enables traffic to a drain in the corner will then make it possible fall over the edge.

According to the Workplace Regulations, section 4-2, rescue equipment must be easily accessible that is functional and ready for use at all times. Whether rescue equipment is necessary depends on which measures one chooses to take and which method is chosen. Høyden assists its customers with such assessments.

Employers who have employees working at height and in fall arrest systems are required to:

  • Identify and risk assess dangerous areas.

  • Mark any dangerous areas.

  • Take measures to block / restrict access to these areas.

  • If workers or others have to perform work in these areas, measures must be taken to ensure that this can be done with a sufficient level of protection.

  • Select methods and equipment on the basis of risk analyzes.

  • Ensure that PPE provides fully sound protection.

  • Provide equipment and work specific training in the use of PPE.

  • Ensure good routines for storage, maintenance and control of PPE.

Høyden assists with risk assessments, equipment sales and training.
